Briarback Boar
Briarbacks are a massive breed of wild boar native to the oldest and most overgrown regions of the Veilwood. Their thick hides are covered in coarse black-brown hair, scars, and tangled briars that become embedded in their backs as they force their way through dense vegetation. Fiercely territorial and nearly fearless, Briarbacks were once simply dangerous forest beasts. Over generations, the Redcaps learned to ride them, creating a brutal form of shock cavalry that can charge through terrain where conventional mounts cannot.
Briar Hide. The Briarback's thick hide and tangled vegetation protect it from attacks. A creature that hits the Briarback with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 2 (1d4) piercing damage from its embedded thorns and briars.
Forest Charger. The Briarback ignores nonmagical difficult terrain caused by plants, roots, undergrowth, and similar vegetation.
Relentless. If the Briarback takes damage that would reduce it to 0 hit points, it can make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw. On a success, it drops to 1 hit point instead. The Briarback can't use this trait again until it finishes a short or long rest.
Actions
Tusks. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage.
Briar Charge. If the Briarback moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with its Tusks attack on the same turn, the target takes an additional 7 (2d6) piercing damage and must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Trample. The Briarback moves up to its speed in a straight line. It can move through the space of a Medium or smaller creature. That creature must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 10 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage and falls prone. On a success, it takes half damage and isn't knocked prone. The Briarback can use Trample only once per turn.
